Chaos
In the relentless pace of life, we are pulled into an invisible whirlpool, a digital chaos, every single day. Between screens, deadlines and the constant rush, we sometimes lose track of time and of ourselves. Yet right in the middle of this intense confusion, we have loyal companions that bring us back to reality, warm us from within and make us say “I am here”: our cat friends, watching us with curious eyes and knowing exactly how to stay in the moment, and a cup of hot coffee that motivates and sustains us with every sip. In my design, I wanted to tell the story of this office chaos we are all familiar with, and of that small, intimate breathing space we find in a single sip of coffee right at the heart of it.

A Forty-Year Bond
In my design, I brought together the art of illumination (tezhip) and coffee culture. A coffee adventure is hidden within the symmetrical, repeating arrangement of illumination art. It is a story presented to us alongside baristas, coffee cherries and wonderful cups prepared with coffee beans.

Little Coffee Town
When I arrived at Starbucks and got my coffee while waiting for my friend, I entered my favourite time of day: the “overthinking” hour. There are ten minutes until the person I am waiting for arrives, but that stretches into whole galaxies while I count the steps of people passing through Alsancak. There is a cat at my feet, and I hope I do not step on it because of the gaze that turns passers-by transparent as I drift away. This paper cup has given many people a peaceful space here. But everyone is curious about one another. Some wonder what the man working like a dog actually earns, others whether the person across from them is interested in them at all. And I watch them all from space. For the love of the stars…

Portrait of a Bean
Behind every sip of coffee lies a long journey where nature, labour, time and transformation are intertwined. This animation was designed precisely to trace that journey. The beans became living characters with stories of their own. They grew, they dried, they were roasted and they were ground. They turned into coffees carrying their own distinct stories. An adventure that began with a single coffee bean was completed in the warmth of a cup.

Ever since I was little, I had a great interest in drawing and creating new things; over time it evolved into something more and became my future. Along this path, I was honoured to take part in this competition, perhaps the biggest step I have taken so far.
I am currently shaping my career as an Animation and Cartoon student and continuing to develop myself.

Arife Şeyma Gök Çaylı

avatar
I am Arife Şeyma Gök Çaylı. Ever since childhood, I have loved telling stories through drawing. I work in animation, illustration and motion graphic design, exploring the points where colours and textures intersect with digital techniques. I am especially drawn to the power of movement, colour and technology in storytelling.
In my work, I try to build new connections with the audience, sometimes on the pages of a children's book, sometimes in a single animation frame, and sometimes through augmented reality experiences. I also continue my work in the field of Cartoon and Animation in academia as a research assistant. For me, illustration is not merely showing something; it means opening up space for a feeling, a memory or a story.

Floating with the Star

This design reflects my daily routine, transforming it into a personal journey into Starbucks' orbit, guided by a star and the rhythm of music. As the essence of coffee is revealed, it brings fulfillment and turns the space into a galaxy of discovery, where I drift in pursuit of new stars with a child like curiosity. This atmosphere evolves into a fluid and cohesive story, where organic and repeating forms intertwine with elements that evoke Starbucks-specific associations, creating a cosmos of imagination.

Mytological Traces

A visual scene that blends the past and present is created by combining the cultural traces and symbols of Anatolia with the mythological identity of Starbucks. The mermaid figure in the Starbucks logo is at the center of a mythological scene surrounded by the symbolic motifs of Anatolian lands.

Drink and Get Colorful

We all live completely different lives in the same world; we're all different. But we actually have two things in common. For example, each of us is constantly trying to keep up with things throughout our lives, rushing around without stopping. And in this rush, we lose ourselves. This is our first common point. The moments when we put a stop to this for a moment and find ourselves again are our second common point. The first sip of coffee we take with our loved ones, in a place we love, doing things we love, is one of those moments where we stop for a moment, take a deep breath, and feel alive. So, in my design, this rush at the top transforms into a life that becomes more colorful with every sip we take from the cup, toward the bottom.
