Eco StoresWe work to create eco stores by using environment-friendly materials and systems with lower carbon emissions. We use environment-friendly construction materials and furniture in our stores and implement practices to save energy and water. We use the US Green Building Council’s LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification program to guide our efforts and as our KPI.
Combating Climate ChangeClimate change is currently the biggest threat that the Earth is facing. Looking at the world map, you can see that the coffee producing regions and the tropical forests are in the same geographical areas. Therefore, taking steps toward climate change is a top priority for Starbucks. We engage in various activities and studies to protect the forests in coffee growing regions against climate change and improve the quality of life for coffee farmers. Our GoalWe run programs to support farmers in implementing sustainable agricultural practices that protect natural resources and help them earn income in the levels they deserve from the high quality coffees they grow. What We DoWe save energy and water, reduce waste from our cups, promote recycling and increase the number of our eco stores to significantly reduce our environmental footprint. Starbucks has strived to tackle the impact of climate change since 2004, focusing on renewable energy and energy conservation, and will continue to do so.
